Curatorial Practice
Our curatorial practice is concerned with developing a new model of ‘cross-temporal curation’. This approach will support artists not only on a transactional commercial basis, but with a representational model that is underpinned by a conceptual framework.
We have several years of independently advising on, curating and producing exhibitions before collaborating as Cassinelli Mills. Working predominantly with global majority and queer artists, our shared commitment to supporting artists with research led and nuanced practices is what brought us together. Artists we have worked with in the past include Roman Manfredi, Hanna Tuulikki, Ingrid Pollard, and Iman Datoo.
Our framework as Cassinelli Mills is draws on the concept that we are all connected across time and space, not operating in what Doreen Massey describes as sealed up ‘time-space envelopes’ but as part of what we think of as a ’creative continuum’. As such, this curatorial approach seeks to connect past artist-women with contemporary and future artists, to honour their practices and reactivate overlooked legacies. Our inaugural Pamela Colman Smith research project will combine the work of Colman Smith with artists we represent and along with contemporary artists.
